The Chicago Professional Taxicab Drivers' Association is a natural evolution of the former Chicago Professional Tax Cab Drivers Association, founded by Steve Wiedersberg, Raja Khan, Dianne Suntucci and others.

Currently, the new CPTDA is under the direction of Mr. Raja Khan, Mr. Don Nathan, Ms. Daine Santucci,  Mr. Salem Qureshi, Mr. Yi Tang, and Mr. Wolfgang Weiss.

Mission Statement

The purposes for which the Chicago Professional Taxicab Drivers' Association is organized are:

v      To promote the public health, safety and welfare;

v      To provide guidance and counsel to taxicab drivers, independent taxicab owner/operators and taxicab associations in the exercise and enforcement of their lawful rights, obligations and remedies;

v      To encourage taxicab drivers, independent taxicab owner/operators and taxicab associations to maintain and improve the quality of services; and

v      To establish, maintain and provide access to a comprehensive database of educational and self-help materials; public documents; service providers and organizations that may aid and assist in the resolution of disputes between taxicab drivers, taxicab owner/operators, taxicab associations and government agencies.

v       To engage in civic, educational and patriotic activities within the meaning of and compliance to section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

Battery of an on-duty taxicab driver is a CLASS 3 FELONY, punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment.

Mayor Richard M. Daley’s Taxi Safety and Security Law

Assault on an ON-DUTY CAB DRIVER defined – Mandatory sentence.

There is hereby created the offense of assault against an ON-DUTY CAB DRIVER or ON-DUTY LICENSED CHAUFFEUR.  A person commits assault against an ON-DUTY CAB DRIVER or ON-DUTY LICENSED CHAUFFEUR when he engages in conduct which places a person as defined above in reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery. Upon conviction of this offense, a mandatory sentence of imprisonment shall be imposed, not to be less than 90 days nor more than 180 days.
